Von Seidels has opened its fifth regional office on the African continent, Von Seidels Kenya. The new office is located in Nairobi and will service the East Africa region.

Von Seidels already has local offices in other major African markets, including Nigeria, South Africa, Cameroon/OAPI, and Namibia, which facilitates both national and regional ARIPO filings.

The firm has teamed up with experienced IP attorney Perpetua Mwangi, who will work closely with the firm’s partners and practice leaders to run its Kenyan operations.

“I am excited and grateful for this next chapter in my professional journey and especially for the opportunity to work together with such a leading and growing IP Firm renowned for its experienced team and expertise across all aspects of Intellectual Property. I’m looking forward to the journey ahead!”

Bastiaan Koster, managing partner of Von Seidels comments: “Our firm has a thriving sub-Saharan practice serving clients from across the world. Our Kenya office strengthens our position as one of Africa’s leading IP-legal firms and adds to the services and local knowledge we can provide to our clients. Mombasa in Kenya is a major port and gateway for most imports into the East Africa region. Kenya is, therefore, an important country for distributing foreign goods into East Africa.”

Kenya is a major economic hub in sub-Saharan Africa and is renowned for its prominent role in fostering African tech startups. It boasts a sophisticated and effective IP regime with progressive views on combatting piracy and counterfeiting, which is a perfect fit for the expertise Von Seidels is able to offer in this region.

Kenya has further positioned itself as a leader in eCommerce, fintech, and digital innovation. Agriculture, real estate, manufacturing, logistics, tourism, retail, and energy are also major industries driving Kenya’s economic growth.

Although the firm has served clients in Kenya for years, the establishment of a local presence signals its positive outlook for the East Africa region and its commitment to offering clients the best local expertise across Africa.
