Boston, MA – June 3, 2025 – Pierson Ferdinand LLP, one of the world’s fastest-growing law firms, announces the appointment of trailblazing attorney David Boundy to its Intellectual Property (IP) Department.
Boundy’s practice focuses on IP matters, regularly counseling clients on strategies to harness IP as an integrated business asset. Boundy also advises clients on patent prosecution, licensing, acquisitions, financing, and transactional due diligence. He has unique experience advising growth companies on IP portfolio structures for optimum appeal to investors.
Boundy is a recognized authority in administrative law as it applies to the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) to derive beneficial results for clients, notably in cases before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board and the US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. Between 2007-2009, Boundy led the teams responsible for the successful efforts to quash the USPTO’s 5/25 claims, 2006-09 Continuations, and IDS, Markush, and appeal rules. In recognition of his experience, Boundy was invited to discuss Chevron and Auer deference at the Federal Circuit Judicial Conference in 2018.
Boundy’s clients range from growth companies to established multinationals and investors. Clients often operate in artificial intelligence, robotics, medical technology, computer hardware, and software.
Boundy’s achievements and his sophisticated offering to clients have frequently attracted industry accolades. He was featured in IAM’s 2024 list of ‘300 Global Leaders’ – a ranking of the world’s leading IP strategists; and has been recognized by The National Law Journal as one of the ‘50 Intellectual Property Trailblazers.’
Boundy’s arrival reaffirms PierFerd’s strategy of bolstering its national IP capabilities and deepening the firm’s bench in key growth areas.
Naira Simmons, Co-Chair, Intellectual Property at Pierson Ferdinand, commented: “David has a world-class track record across diverse patent preparation and prosecution matters and a distinctive, highly effective administrative law practice. This unique experience will be an asset for the IP Department as Partners continue to provide sophisticated counsel serving nationwide clients’ complex needs.”
Boundy, Partner at Pierson Ferdinand, added: “There have been several compelling reasons to join PierFerd, including the firm’s stellar reputation, which grows by the day; its dynamic IP department; and the collegiate, entrepreneurial culture. The first-class support provided by the firm has also made the transition seamless, benefitting existing clients and laying the foundations to grow my practice further.”
Boundy joins from Potomac Law Group LLC. He has prior Am Law pedigree – at Willkie Farr & Gallagher LLP, Schulte Roth & Zabel LLP, and Shearman & Sterling – with in-house experience at Proper Orange, LLC, and Cantor Fitzgerald.
Boundy is licensed in New York, Massachusetts and before the US Supreme Court, the US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, and the US District Court for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York.
An esteemed lecturer on patent law and advanced patent prosecution, Boundy has presented at conferences by AIPLA, IPO, NAPP, IEEE-USA, and the Practicing Law Institute.
Boundy holds a J.D., with honors from Columbia University, an M.S. from the University of Michigan, and a B.S. from Hope College.
