Bereskin & Parr will be joining fellow premier Canadian IP firm Smart & Biggar. The transaction is expected to complete on September 27, 2024.
Smart & Biggar is one of Canada’s leading IP firms, with more than 125 lawyers, patent agents, and trademark agents, located in five offices across Canada – Ottawa, Toronto, Montréal, Vancouver, and Calgary. Smart & Biggar is also a member of the IPH group, a leading international IP services group operating in 10 IP jurisdictions, including Australia, Canada, China, Hong Kong SAR, Indonesia, Malaysia, New Zealand, the Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand.
Once the transaction completes, the Bereskin & Parr team will combine with Smart & Biggar and operate as Smart & Biggar. As a combined firm, it will be able to draw on the strengths of both businesses to deliver high-quality services to clients, with direct access to IPH’s leading international network of IP firms.
What does this mean for you?
For now, it’s business as usual, and there is no change to the services the firms provide or to any current agreements. The same people will work with clients, providing the same high-quality IP services. Until completion of the transaction, Bereskin & Parr and Smart & Biggar will continue to operate entirely independently.
