Cantor Colburn LLP is pleased to announce that six attorneys have been promoted within the Firm to partnership, effective January 1, 2024. The new partners are Asaf Batelman, Ali Caless, Nancy Kennedy, Sung Wook Kooh, Matteo Pedini, and Kimberly Vines, Ph.D. Mr Batelman, Mr Kooh, Mr Pedini, and Dr Vines are patent attorneys, and Ms Caless and Ms Kennedy are trademark and copyright attorneys. All have been part of the firm for several years, earning the respect of their colleagues and consistently delivering excellent service to clients throughout their tenure.

Ali Caless is a trademark and copyright attorney. She counsels clients on trademark clearance, prosecution, monitoring, and enforcement, and US and foreign portfolio development and management. She is involved in drafting settlement agreements to resolve trademark disputes. She also provides assistance with other intellectual property agreements including assignments, licenses, and consent agreements. She also has experience in copyright matters and domain name disputes, including arbitrations under the Uniform Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy. She is recognized in Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch, 2022 and 2023, and a Super Lawyers Rising Star, 2020. She holds a JD with honors from the University of Connecticut School of Law, with a Certificate in Intellectual Property Law, and a BA from Trinity College. She is admitted in Connecticut.
Nancy Kennedy manages domestic and international trademark, copyright, trade dress, domain name and other cyberlaw matters. She concentrates her practice on conducting trademark clearance searches and rendering opinions on availability and registrability; prosecuting applications for registration at the US Patent and Trademark Office and the US Copyright Office; recording registrations with the US Department of Homeland Security Office of Customs and Border Protection; and representing clients in disputes before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board. She also counsels clients on the strategic use, policing, and enforcement of intellectual property to protect the investment in products, services, and ideas from the concept stage to the marketplace. She is a Visiting Professor from Practice at the University of Connecticut School of Law, teaching Internet Law; Trademark Law; and Newer Technologies and the Law: NFTs, Blockchain, and Web 3.0. She also served as the Supervising Clinical Attorney at UConn Law’s Intellectual Property and Entrepreneurship Law Clinic. She holds a JD from the University of Connecticut School of Law, with an Honors Certificate in Intellectual Property Law; a Certificate in International Intellectual Property Law from Tulane University Law School; and a BA from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. She is admitted in Connecticut. She is admitted in Connecticut, to practice before the US District Court for the District of Connecticut, as well as the US Supreme Court.
