INTA opens applications for the 2025 Latin American Moot Court Competition on Intellectual Property Law

New York, New York—April 10, 2025—The International Trademark Association (INTA), the Andean Community Court of Justice (TJCA), and the Inter-American Association of Intellectual Property (ASIPI) have announced that applications are now open for the fifth annual Latin American Moot Court Competition on Intellectual Property Law. The competition is open to law students and recent graduates from universities across Latin America, with applications being accepted until May 30, 2025.

Since its inception, the Latin American Moot Court Competition has engaged over 600 students from 50 universities across 15 countries, establishing itself as the region’s most prestigious mock trial competition in intellectual property (IP) law and a key platform for academic and professional development in this specialized field.

The winning team of the 2025 competition will receive a US $3,000 prize, jointly awarded by INTA and ASIPI, along with access to exclusive benefits provided by the organizing institutions, valuable international recognition, and networking opportunities with IP law experts.

“This competition provides a unique platform for students to hone their litigation and legal analysis skills in IP law within a highly demanding academic environment,” said INTA CEO Etienne Sanz de Acedo. “The growth we’ve seen over the past five years demonstrates the importance of IP education in Latin America and our commitment to supporting the next generation of IP professionals.”

“We want to promote the study of intellectual property in the university student community through an academic experience that challenges their critical thinking and their ability to strategize and strengthens their oral skills,” said Juli Gutiérrez, Executive Director of ASIPI.

“The Moot Court is a useful tool for undergraduate law students and graduates to strengthen their knowledge and professional skills in intellectual property, an area of great relevance in the framework of Andean Community law,” added Mario Santos from TJCA.

Teams can consist of two to eight members, and registration is free. Participants will prepare and present legal arguments for a fictional case, developing skills essential for future practice in intellectual property law.

The 2024 competition set a record, with 62 teams from 50 universities in 14 countries across Latin America and the Caribbean participating. The team from Universidad Privada de Santa Cruz de la Sierra (Bolivia) emerged as champions, while a team from Universidad Nacional de Colombia secured second place.

The Latin American Moot Court Competition continues the tradition established by INTA’s successful Saul Lefkowitz Moot Court Competition and Asia-Pacific Moot Court Competition, expanding opportunities for IP education to Spanish-speaking students across Latin America.
