New York, New York—October 31, 2023—The International Trademark Association (INTA) has launched its second professional certificate program, International Certificate Course: The Lifecycle of a Trademark, with registration opening today.
The course offers a comprehensive overview of trademark clearance globally. By covering various regions, participants gain insights into different legal frameworks, cultural nuances, and market trends, empowering participants with diverse perspectives and knowledge. Adopting a practical approach, the course utilizes case studies, establishes best practices, and helps enable registrants to excel in their professional endeavors.
The team behind the course is led by Amanda Hyland (Taylor English Duma LLP, USA) and Johanna Sistek (Oracle Corporation, USA) as Chair and Vice Chair of the Academic Committee, along with Barbara Barron Kelly (Corsearch, USA) as the Subcommittee Chair spearheading the project.
Critical to the course’s rigor is the assembly of a diverse and distinguished faculty of instructors that will engage, educate, and energize a wide range of participants. The course is intentionally curated to cater to a diverse audience, including young practitioners, students, paralegals, and professionals at various expertise levels. Everyone from seasoned experts looking for a refresher on processes in different regions to budding enthusiasts aiming to deepen their understanding will find this course offers valuable insights.

The instructors skillfully guide participants through the process of securing and maintaining trademarks in their designated areas throughout the course. Participants will gain invaluable insights into key topics in each chapter which include preliminary clearance, full searches, costs, overcoming obstacles, renewals, protection, and registering users or licensees.
The course is structured into six modules, each dedicated to exploring trademark clearance intricacies within specific regions: Africa, Asia-Pacific, Europe, Latin America, Middle East, and North America. Each chapter consists of a 90-minute session, meticulously crafted to delve into the unique nuances and complexities of the trademark lifecycle in each respective region.
The International Certificate Course was created in accordance with the third pillar of INTA’s 2022–2025 Strategic Plan to Support the Development of IP Professionals, which calls on the Association to help brand professionals navigate changes affecting the profession and to help them hone substantive and legal skills they need to advance in their careers.
