LONDON: Intellectual property firm Mewburn Ellis announces the appointment of Andy King as its new Head of the Trade Mark Practice Group and member of the Management Board, from November 1, 2023.

Andy qualified as a Chartered Trade Mark Attorney with Mewburn Ellis in 2011 and has over 15 years of experience in trademark law, including as an Authorised Representative at the EUIPO prior to Brexit. He handles a wide range of trademark work, with a focus on strategic advice on the selection, adoption, protection, and enforcement of brands internationally.

Andy has extensive experience representing clients at the UKIPO and WIPO and works with clients all over the world and across a wide range of industry sectors, with a particular interest in the motorsport industry. He is looking forward to supporting the development and growth of the Trade Mark Practice Group and is also keen to explore ways in which artificial intelligence (‘AI’) can improve the delivery of the group’s services and the client experience.

Andy succeeds Kate O’Rourke in this role, who will remain a Partner until April, after which she will become a consultant to the firm.

Richard Clegg, Mewburn Ellis Managing Partner, commented:

“Andy’s appointment reflects the firm’s commitment to providing its clients with the highest quality trademark services. He is a highly experienced and skilled Chartered Trade Mark Attorney with a deep understanding of the needs of clients. Andy is a natural leader who has the trust of his colleagues and exemplifies the forward-looking perspective we strive for within our organization.”

“Our thanks to Kate for her hard work and dedication to the Mewburn team. We are grateful for her trusted counsel now and when she takes on the consultant role in April.”

Andy King, Partner at Mewburn Ellis, added:

“Stepping into the Head of Trade Marks role is an exciting milestone of which I am very proud. Our sector is continuing to navigate a series of seismic global challenges which have an impact on brand protection.

“The rapid pace of artificial intelligence evolution offers significant challenges and opportunities to businesses of all sizes, some of which, are yet to be realized. I look forward to working with our highly talented trademark team at Mewburn Ellis, to adapt to these challenges and deliver the best possible services and counsel to our clients.”
