Greensfelder, Hemker & Gale, P.C. is pleased to announce that Amanda M. Roach and Angela S. Kalsi have joined the firm’s steadily expanding Intellectual Property (IP) Practice Group in the Chicago office. Roach and Kalsi counsel clients nationwide on trademark law with a focus on brand protection strategies.

The addition of top talent in the practice further expands a full-service IP platform that has grown 75 percent since the 2015 arrival of the group’s IP Litigation team leader, Kara E. F. Cenar. Strategic Chicago additions since then have included Susan Meyer, who is the Trademark, Copyright, Media, and Advertising team leader, and more recently, intellectual property attorneys Benjamin Rotman (patent and technology licensing) and Jared Hedman (IP Litigation).

Greensfelder’s IP team emphasizes full-service counsel for clients, including a growing portfolio of established companies, start-ups and women- and minority-owned businesses. Roach and Kalsi’s additions will enhance the strength of the firm’s IP bench and contribute to the growth in the firm’s Chicago presence overall: Seven attorneys have joined the office since September 2021, four in the past two months.

Roach and Kalsi are members of Chicago Women in IP (ChiWIP), a group co-founded by Kara Cenar that has played a significant role in the Chicago IP community and the growth of the firm’s practice. Cenar, who is also a former president of the Chicago chapter of the National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO Chicago), noted, “The growth of Greensfelder’s IP group, with a focus on women-owned businesses — coupled with the recent addition of a diverse supplier certification practice led by Paula Finch and Dee Harleston — allows the firm to provide impactful services for the important diverse and woman-owned business community.”

Roach focuses her practice on trademark law including brand selection, portfolio strategy, trademark application prosecution, brand enforcement and defense, due diligence, anti-counterfeiting measures, and trademark maintenance within the United States and internationally. She advises clients ranging from start-ups to Fortune 100 companies with a strategic and tailored approach to their trademark needs. She has experience in a wide array of industries including food, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, medical equipment, water reclamation, oil and gas, household goods and fixtures, employment, and entertainment. She is also a member of the International Trademark Association and Intellectual Property Association of Chicago.

Kalsi focuses her practice on U.S. and international trademark prosecution, clearance, enforcement, and maintenance. She develops brand protection strategies and manages trademark portfolios for companies in a variety of industries. In addition to her proven history of resolving trademark disputes, including cases before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board (TTAB), she also has experience authoring a variety of IP agreements and registering works at the United States Copyright Office. She is a member of the International Trademark Association and sits on the Trademark Offices Practice Committee, where she provides expertise on the Madrid Protocol Subcommittee.

“We are thrilled to welcome Amanda and Angela to our IP practice and know that their trademark experience will greatly benefit our clients emerging from the pandemic and seeking to grow their businesses,” said Mark E. Stallion, leader of Greensfelder’s Intellectual Property Practice Group. “With women-owned businesses as a significant aspect of their IP portfolios, their practice aligns with our dedication to more diverse and equitable representation in intellectual property and tech industries.”

They join from Amin Talati Wasserman LLP, where they were partners in the Trademark, Brand, Logo and Slogan Protection practice.

Roach received her B.A. in English from Princeton University and her J.D. from DePaul University College of Law with a Certificate in Intellectual Property, Art and Museum Law. Kalsi received her B.A. from the University of Michigan and her J.D. from DePaul University College of Law.
