Boutique law firm White & Black has appointed Tom Carver as a partner and head of IP.

Tom brings 15 years of experience advising international clients within top intellectual property practices, including 3 years as head of office for an international law firm in Guangzhou, China.

Tom’s first degree was in genetics and his legal practice now leverages that background whilst encompassing a broad spectrum of sectors and IP rights, with notable experience in biotech patents as well as trade marks in Asia. Tom also has substantial multi-jurisdictional litigation experience both in patents and design rights, including a number of cases at the UK Supreme Court level.

Clients say that Tom “provides practical, client-tailored, astute advice in all circumstances, and coordinates efficiently across overseas territories” and is recommended by Legal 500, IAM Patent 1000, and as an “IP Star” in the Managing Intellectual Property IP Stars Handbook.

Tom is a regular speaker at IP conferences and writes for leading publications on IP matters.  He is also listed as an expert by the China EU IPR SME Helpdesk.

Victoria Wright, CEO of White & Black, commented “Tom’s appointment highlights the firm’s commitment to supporting clients through business-critical intellectual property matters. He will head our IP and Life Sciences team as we continue to grow this important part of our practice and we are delighted to add someone with Tom’s specialist expertise and international experience to our team. His experience advising Chinese law firms and their clients, and his understanding of Chinese business culture, will build on our strong existing relationships in Asia”.
