New York, New York—June 18, 2024—The International Trademark Association (INTA) has received the 2024 Association Award from the Global Anti-Counterfeiting Group (GACG). INTA accepted the award during the Global Anti-Counterfeiting Awards Ceremony on June 5, 2024, in Paris, France.
The GACG is an international network of national and regional intellectual property (IP) protection and enforcement organizations. Its members are not-for-profit associations of IP rights holders and their representatives. They share best practices and information, as well as consolidate efforts internationally to solve IP-related issues. The GACG first organized the Global Anti-Counterfeiting Awards in 2000 to recognize individuals, organizations, and companies that do the most work in fighting counterfeits.
INTA Director of Anticounterfeiting Alastair Gray accepted the award on behalf of the Association: “I am honored and proud that our organization has been selected to receive the award in the ‘Association’ category from the GACG for 2023.”
“Together with our dedicated Anticounterfeiting Committee members around the world, we will continue to work tirelessly to safeguard IP rights, promote effective anticounterfeiting strategies, and enhance cooperation with stakeholders, including rights owners, online platforms, and law enforcement officials,” said Mr Gray.
Through its Anticounterfeiting Committee (ACC), INTA partners with stakeholders to advocate for stronger anticounterfeiting measures online and offline, to promote cooperation in enforcement efforts across agencies and borders, and to increase awareness of the harms of counterfeiting.
The ACC is comprised of 349 members in 70 different jurisdictions, making it the Association’s largest committee. The committee evaluates treaties, laws, and regulations related to anticounterfeiting and enforcement, creates guidelines and resources to help stop counterfeiting, and conducts research on counterfeit-related issues.
The Association also works to address the demand for counterfeit goods through its consumer awareness campaign, the Unreal Campaign. Led by a committee of members, the Unreal Campaign educates young adults ages 14–23 about the importance of trademarks and brands and the dangers of counterfeit products. INTA members around the world present the Unreal Campaign directly to students through illustrative, relatable presentations, largely at schools, higher education institutions, and youth-oriented events.
Since its inception in 2012, the Unreal Campaign has directly reached more than 88,500 students in more than 55 jurisdictions around the world. Volunteers of the Unreal Campaign have given more than 600 presentations. The Campaign has also reached many thousands more young adults through social media.
Mr Gray concluded: “On behalf of INTA’s members globally, thank you again to the GACG for this award. This recognition underscores our commitment to combating counterfeiting and protecting consumers worldwide.”
